Standard penis size

Penis size is defined by the width and length of male genitalia. Measured from the penis tip to the abdomen, the circumference of an average penis is about 127 mm or 5 inches, while it is usually 127 to 178 mm or 5 to 7 inches long. Penis size can be judged only when it is erect. This is because men with a small flaccid penis often grow larger when erect, while those with a relatively large flaccid penis may not grow much larger upon arousal. Men often underestimate their penis size because of the effect of foreshortening while looking down. The accumulated fat at the base can also make the penis appear shorter. Sex education regarding the standard size of the penis often helps to remove misconceptions about what is considered to be medically normal.

Men's obsession with penis size has spawned a whole industry of products that claim to enlarge the penis.
